About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72-hour free transit. I have a long layover in Shanghai on my way from New York to Bangkok.

The first layover is for about 8 hours and the second layover is for about 16 hours. Both layovers are at Shanghai Pudong and using the same airline. Would I be able to use the 72-hour visa-free transit? I have both flight ticket information.

Since your stops are less than 24 hours you can only apply for the 24 hour transit. It will be up to immigration discretion if you can leave the airport or need to spend it in the airport. 8 hours the odds are not good. The 16 hour has better odds but if not overnight w/ hotel then odds go down. There is no way to guarantee ability to leave airport unless you have tourist (L) visa before leaving on your trip.
