Visa waiver in Beijing

We are arriving in Beijing by air from London at 9.30am on Friday April 5. Can we participate in the Visa Waiver if we leave by train to Hong Kong on Sunday night or Monday morning? If so, is evidence of a reservation enough? - we would need to pick up the ticket after arriving in China so cannot show the ticket on arrival. Finally, if this is possible, do we need to get the direct day train to Hong Kong or could we get the overnight train to Guangzhou and then a train to Hong Kong?

If Beijing is your only stop in mainland China, you can get the free transit. If you need to go to Guangzhou from Beijing, you are advised to apply for visa.
