About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visiting Shanghai and Beijing

I will arrive in Shanghai from Los Angeles and stay there for 3 days, then fly to Hong kong for another 3 days. Then from Hong Kong to Beijing for another 3 days. After that I fly back to Los Angeles from the Beijing airport.

What kind of Visa do I need?

You don't need any visa for Shanghai or Beijing as long as all your flights are nonstop.
You would be ok for the 144h twov in Shanghai and Beijing.

Thanks so much for the response. I can get the 144 tour twov when I arrive as long as I show my flight and hotel paperwork correct?

Is there an issue if it’s not a non-stop?

What happen if his Beijing to HK has a layover in Chengdu for like 2 hours?

Then you won't qualify. You must arrive in Beijing/Tianjin on an international flight, and a landing elsewhere in Mainland China means your flight to Beijing will be domestic.

My flight to Shanghai from LA is nonstop and my flight to Beijing from Hong kong is also nonstop since it's only a 3hr flight.
