144. Am I eligible for 144 permits?

Hi!

I'm going to Shanghai 4/10-4/15.
Lax->-HK->ICN->PVG(4/10-4/15)->LAX.

If my return flight stops in ICN to go LAX( one stop connecting flight) then it’s not eligible for 144, am I understand it correctly? (A and C need to be different airport or is it the final destination count as C?)

LAX->HK->ICN->PVG->ICN->LAX (x)
LAX->HK->ICN->PVG->LAX (o)

LAX->HK->ICN->PVG->ICN->LAX doesn't qualify for free transit, but the LAX->HK->ICN->PVG->LAX does.
