Invitation letter for tourist visa

I visited the Chinese consulate in Chicago and I had all my files with me, I was told however that I need to have an invitation letter for a tourist L with a barcode. This means that the letter needs to be official. I was wondering if your office offers such letters and if so, how much should I expect it to be? I should also point out that I'm on an F1 visa and not a U.S. citizen which is probably why I was asked for the letter.

You are advised to find an agency to help you get the invitation letter.
