Do I need a permit to travel to xinjiang as I am Arabic

I am Arabia, student in Ningbo university, I have a lot of xinjiang friends, and I would like to travel to xinjiang , my question is that do I need I permit for my travel , and if I have friends there , could they entertain me , I mean can I stay at their home , I would like to experience their life .
