June 2024 Northern Xinjiang Travel

My wife and myself, as foreign travellers, have booked our accommodation for 3 nights stay in Hemu Old Village and another 3 nights within Kanas Scenic Area.

1. Do we need to register with the Tourism Bureau or any other local government organisation upon arrival at Urumuqi before starting our Northern Xinjiang tour on our own in June 2024?

2. How and where do we register with the Public Security Bureau before starting our travels to Hemu and Kanas Scenic Area? What are the required documents?

3. How long would the Public Security Bureau normally take to process and issue the permits for our travels to Hemu and Kanas? Is it possible to apply online so that we can have ease of mind before starting our travels?
