About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit visa and luggage

Traveling from US to Shanghai to Bangkok with 10 hour layover in Shanghai. Do I need the transit g and do I need to grab my checked in luggage? Flying united from US to Shanghai and Air China for my second leg. Or can I check my luggage all the way through to Bangkok?
