About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I fly from HK to Shanghai and back to HK 23 hours later without a VISA if en route UK to NZ?

I am flying from London to HK and 19 hours later flying to Shanghai and stay 23 hours. I return to HK and fly to NZ via Melbourne 36 hours later. Do I need a visa for my time in Shanghai?

HK-Shanghai-HK is obviously not transit nor en route to your final destination so you will need a visa regardless of how long your stay is.
