About:Exit Regulations of China

So lets say I finished my contract. wanted to bring 20,000 USD cash back to the US.

So I would have to declare it or would it just not be possible? If I were to declare it, what would happen?

Hi, it is better not to take so much cash and even you declare in advance, it is possible for you to be fined and be asked to explain the source of the cash.
