About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight from Finland to Beijing to S. Korea

I’m staying about 50 hours in Beijing before flying to S. Korea. Do I need to do anything in advance about the 72h free transit, or do I only need to visit a desk at PEK?

You need to go to the dedicated immigration counter (if that's what you mean by transit desk) and present your onward ticket receipt or itinerary, plus your hotel reservation.
