About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Beijing and Shanghai 9 night stop

I am flying in to beijing on 28.10.2019 and spending 5 nights, then i am getting the train to Shanghai for a further 4 night. Please can you advise me on what I would need to do as i am in Chine longer than 144 hours.

You will need to either apply for a tourist visa or you need to fly Beijing to a third country and then fly to Shanghai otherwise it's not a transit.
