About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need to obtain a visa for China, or do I qualify for the 24 hour TWOV for leaving and returning

I read the information on the site but am unfortunately still a bit confused.

I'm planning on booking a flight from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Melbourne, Australia this summer. One of the cheaper flights has the following routes:

LEAVE:
(ULN) Chinggis Khaan > (PEK) Capital International > (HAK) Meilan > (MEL) Melbourne - Tullamarine

(The total layover time in both cities in China is 6h 40m, and both flights are with Hainan Airlines.)

RETURN
(MEL) Melbourne - Tullamarine > (CAN) Baiyun > (PEK) Capital International > (ULN) Chinggis Khaan

(The total layover time in both cities in China is 12h 5m. Both flights are with China Southern Airlines.)

---------
I hold a US passport. (working in Mongolia, which is why I'd leave from UB.)

Thank you,
Timothy

You would qualify for the 24 hour TWOV for leaving and returning in both trips.
