About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Outbound -UK to Beijing (stop over) to Bangkok. Return - Hanoi to Beijing to UK.

Hello,

(1) Do I need to apply for a different 72 hour free transit for each way I go ie is it 72 hours in total within say a 1 month period, or is it 72 hours on one's way out and 72 hours on one's way back?

(2) Is the process of getting a 72 hour free transit at Beijing Airport a lengthy one?

All I really want to do is go out for a cigarette on both stop overs.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Regards

K

It's not a visa but a transit without Visa. There is no 72 hour option. It's 24 or 144 depending on how long you are in Beijing. After you leave China, you can apply for another one on the way home. No limit to the number of times you can apply.

It takes probably one hour or more to leave and another hour to come back in. You may be refused to leave the airport if it's not a long enough stop
