About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Buying a Japan-Seoul return ticket, and then a Seoul-Beijing return trip within that

So, the title is self-explanatory.

But if I buy a Japan-Seoul tickets covering a ten or eleven day trip, if I then buy a Seoul-BJ return trip to fall within that period, would this be eligible for the visa waiver?

Obviously the waiver requires you to go Country A-B-C, and these tickets would do a Japan-Seoul-BJ-Seoul-Japan would be the itinerary route.

I was wondering, if you can claim that the return leg of BJ-Seoul-Japan could count as a Japan return and they'd refuse entry.

I would book an open jaw/multi-city trip, but it's so much more expensive doing a linear Japan-Seoul-BJ-Japan route, hence why I was looking at booking to Seoul and doing BJ with that. I have a hunch that this would make me ineligible for the visa though.

Thanks for any help.

The problem is that Seoul-Beijing-Seoul is not a transit and requires a visa.

But a flight from say, Japan to Seoul, Seoul to BJ and then a return flight to Japan which stops in Korea for an hour or so, is okay? Obviously the return boarding pass may say Korea/Incheon or something, but the actual return ticket would be for Japan.

It does not matter what it says on your ticket as final destination. Your exit country cannot be the same country you entered China from. Airport immediately before and after China are what matters and for you they are the same.

Sorry, just to be clear (as I don't want to mess this up), the following wouldn't be eligible for the visa waiver:

Nagoya - Seoul Incheon

Seoul Gimpo - BJ

BJ - Nagoya (with a 1hr 20min layover in Seoul).

As even though its a transit, that last flight still counts as a stop in Seoul, therefore it's Seoul-BJ-Seoul. So I need a direct flight both ways ideally?

It should be clear to you from the answers above that this route is not eligible.

China definition of transit is not the same as the standard definition of a transit. If the wheels touch the ground it counts add a stop. It doesn't matter if you are in the Korean airport for even one minute it counts against you. If you fly on Japan airlines through Tokyo to Nagoya then it would be ok. The Korean air flights are not going to work since it required you to enter and exit China through the same country
