we are US citizens with passports. arrive Shanghai by air march 1 and spend 2 nights in the hotel. Board a ship on March 3  which departs on the 4th.Are we qualified for the 144 hr free transit

It depends on where your last stop is immediately before China, and your first stop immediately after.

Our last stop before arriving in Shanghai, China is Detroit ,Michigan, USA and our firststop immediately after leaving Shanghai is Fukuoka ,Japan.ThanksKen Horne
