Still confused about the max cash (RMB) allowed to carry outside China

Hi, It's not clear for me. Sometimes I read that the maximum cash amount we can take outside China is 20 000 RMB. Does this mean that over 20 000 RMB it is prohibited, or does this mean that if you declare it(let's say for example 50 000), there is no limit ?

On the chines custom website it is written that "The limit of RMB allowed to bring in or take out is 20,000 yuan. The exceeding part is prohibited". But on an other hand, some people say that you should declare the cash if it is over 20 000 RMB.

So, it's not totally clear for me...Thank you if you have an experiment :)

Hi, generally, if it is over than 20,000, it is prohibited. However, if the over part is small and you declare in advance, there will be no big problem. Anyway, if the over part is large (RMB 50,000), you cannot get through the customs.
