About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am travelling from Melbourne to guangzhou. 1 night stop over then yo Phuket.

Then returning with a 68 hour stopover in guangzhou on my way back to Melbourne. What visa requirements do I need?

You don't need one, although you do need to have your onward ticket receipt and hotel reservations handy for immigration.

That's what I had heard but have had no luck getting confirmation from the Chinese Embassy in Australia or where they directed me to Guangzhou airport customs.
