About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Landing visa enough?

Plan to fly from Houston to Shanghai. Tour city for two days. Fly to Thailand. After two days fly back to Bejing.
Tour city for two days. Fly to Singapore. After two days fly back to Shanghai for onward flight to Houston

Do I need visa or landing visa can work?

There's no such thing as a "landing visa". If your passport is from one of the 53 qualifying countries, and if these are your only stops, then you will be eligible for transit without visa three times: USA-Shanghai-Thailand, Thailand-Beijing-Singapore, Singapore-Shanghai-USA. And always refer to "transit without visa" and never "landing visa" to avoid confusion and problems at check-in.
