Returning to China

I have a residence permit that expires in July 2019. My passport also expires in July 2019. If I cross the border into Hong Kong, will I be allowed back into China? I was told that China insists that your passport is valid for six months. Thanks

If your passport is valid for less than 6 months, you are advised to renew it beforehand.
