About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

From USA to shanghai with return connection through Hong Kong qualify for 144 hour transit?

I want to go to Shanghai for only two days to visit Disney. Can I fly directly into Shanghai from the US and then connect back to Hong Kong back to the US and qualify for either a 72 hour or 144 hour free transit?

USA > Shanghai > Hong Kong > USA is allowed up to 144 hours in Shanghai and 90 days in Hong Kong without a visa
