About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA-CHINA-THAILAND

Hi, I am traveling with my American passport to Thailand and doing a layover in Shanghai for five hours. Do I need to apply for a visa? Can I go outside of the airport?

You don't need visa. If you have hotel reservation, maybe you can go outside the airport.
