About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Adding Rountrip to Shanghai

Will the 144 hours twov work for shanghai if the following are my flights? Two round trip tickets, LAX-HKG and HKG-PVG. So it will look like this:

LAX to Hong Kong
Hong Kong to Shanghai
Shanghai to Hong Kong
Hong Kong to LAX

You need a visa. 144 hours transit without visa doesn't work because you are visiting China. You are not in transit at Shanghai because you're returning to Hong Kong.
