Do I qualify to obtain a free transit Visa to Shanghai, China?

I will be in a cruise to India, Malaysia honjong and the cruise will stop at Japan. I will fly from Japan to Shanghai stay 6 days and I will travel front Shanghai to USA. Will I qualify for the free transit Visa? If I do what do I do to obtain the permit before I get there? Thanks
