About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72hrs Visa free entry denied at the PEK airport to the holder of an Italian passport of Thai origin

I have been granted the Italian citizenship more than 10 years ago. At the Beijing international airport I arrived with my 15 yrs old son and applied for a 72 hours free entry which has been granted to my boy but denied to me apparently due to my Thai origin. Unfortunately I was not admitted to reach any part of the terminal, could not collect my luggage where I had my warm clothes and was compelled to stay at the (cold) arrival section of the airport sleeping the whole night on a hard bank until the next day when I have been granted a 24 hours free entry.
I have been asking different officials for the reasons of the denial opposed to me but did not get any satisfactory answer other that "we have our rules". Which are actually such rules? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Unfortunately, much of their "rules" change on a monthly, if not a daily, basis and are never announced to the public. There is also no guarantee that officials' decisions are free from discrimination based on race, gender or national origin. Your case is also not unique as it had happened a few times before (although previous reports are mostly on US or New Zealand citizens born in South Asia or the Middle East).

What I don't understand here is that they eventually agreed to let you in the country which had never happened before. Did they tell you why they let you in the country at last?
