Shipping a Knife from China to the US

On last visit to China, I took a side trip to Mongolia. There I bought a souvenir that made is safely back through Beijing and into northern China. No problem with checked bags, etc. But when it came time to fly home, the object was flagged and I was told that it could not be placed even in my checked baggage. What are my options for shipping this item home from China. I am here. The item is in Sipiing. The item in question is a knife.

Hi, what's the size and type of the knife? As I know, some knives are not allowed to transport to other countries. You can also ask the staff of the post office if the knife can get through the customs.
