About:China Transit Visa

UK traveller visa needed?

My family will be visiting China later this year but we cannot determine if we require a visa or will be covered by the TWOV program.

We will be flying from Japan, spending four days in Shanghai to visit Disneyland before flying back home to London. We would not be leaving the Shanghai area.

This would not require entry permit, as I understand it as it would be covered under the 144 hour twov program.

However, when we leave Shanghai we have a connecting flight in Beijing. We will not be leaving the airport or spending any time in the city, we are simply changing planes but I can't find anywhere if this invalidates the twov requirements?

I have tried looking through the documentation on the website but am still very unsure. I even called the cvasc and was told (rather unbelievably) that they cannot give advice about Chinese applications!!

You cannot use the free transit in Shanghai because of the layover in Beijing. You need a visa for the trip beforehand.
