About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

18 hr lay over Shanghai

Hi,

I am a Philippine passport holder who’s going back to my home country this coming February 8 and wants to verify if I need to apply for a visa when traveling and visiting some places in Shanghai.
I will be flying from Canada. However, I have an 18hour lay over in Shanghai before Philippines.
I know that I don’t need to apply for entry permit if I won’t be leaving the airport premises however, I would like to visit the Shanghai zoo during the layover.
Will I be eligible for a free transit?

Leaving the airport is no longer possible if your layover is less than 24 hours regardless of nationality. In some cases, however, people were let in when they showed their hotel booking confirmations. You can have a try.

But do I need to apply for a transit visa if ever I wanted to go out? I wanted to make sure if I need to apply ahead of time.

If so, you can apply for a visa before your departure.
