About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Bad news?

With US passport, I’ve already booked flights from Kuala Lumpur - Guangzhou - Manila.

I can apply for a 72-hour transit free visa, but my concern is I may not be leaving China because of the warning I’ve heard the news recently. I don’t do wrong, just be a tourist that explores the city during 72 hours of layover.

What’s your thoughts? I’m nervous about traveling to China.

You cannot spend more than 24 hours in the transit area so at some point you must pass immigration. Also as long as your plane touches ground in Guangzhou, Chinese law applies even when you are in transit and will not enter the country. You should change your flight to avoid landings in Mainland China if you really want to avoid interactions with Chinese officials.
