About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

DFW - NRT - PVG - NRT - DFW

If I travel through NRT airport both ways do I need a visa to spend the night in Shanghai?

NRT-PVG-NRT is not transit and you'll need a visa no matter how long you will stay in Shanghai.
