Flying from Japan, to Dalian, to Beijing

I have a flight that is within a 24 hour period that is going to New York from Japan. I have 2 stops. Japan to dalian airport and then dalian airport to Beijing before I go to New York. Do I need to apply for a visa? If so where do I start?

Hi, if you have an American passport and stay in China less than 24 hours, then you don't need to apply for a visa in advance since you are eligible for the 24-hour free-visa transit.
