Should we get engaged in year of dog

Hi I am a dog born 9/17/82. He is a rabbit 5/7/87 The year of the dog has been exceedingly difficult everything major has gone wrong... home flooded ...appendicitis...broken foot ...amongst a bunch of other things. Will it be good luck to be engaged in year of the dog or should we wait until the pig? Thank you
