About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can we get a 24 hour visa at the end of our cruise in January 2019 in the Shanghai cruise terminal.

We are UK citizens cruising the far east. Our last port of call before Shanghai will be Vietnam.
We leave the ship early morning and will be transported to a Shanghai hotel for a few hours, then mid afternoon we will be taken to the airport to catch an evening flight to the UK via Hong Kong.
Our tour operator, Celebrity Cruises, have organised the whole trip but will not advise us on a China entry permit.
As a 75+ couple we are confused by this system in China.
Please help. David F.

As long as the ship does not stop in Hong Kong between Vietnam and Shanghai, then you can use the 24 hour transit in Shanghai on the way to Hong Kong. Hong King is considered a different country than China. Then you can travel anywhere you want after landing in Hong Kong. UK passport can stay in Hong Kong for up to 120 days without a visa.
