About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

BKK - CAN - PEK one connecting flight exempt?

Hey there!

We're two Canadian boys flying out of Bangkok on the 16th of December to get home.
We have two flights lined up, one leg to Beijing with a 1 hour layover in Guangzhou (same company, BKK-CAN-PEK), and one from Beijing to Vancouver within the 72 hours.

I'm now realizing the Guangzhou layover might make us not exempt?! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

You are right that the Guangzhou layover might make you not exempt in Beijing. You need a visa for the trip beforehand.

We were unable to get a direct flight to Beijing. This however was connecting, and the same airline. We have a 1h layover in Guangzhou, though never leave the terminal (no baggage claim, etc.). Does this limit us? Or are we still considered in transit?

You need a visa. Two stops limits you to 24 hours free transit.
