Rules and Restrictions whilst traveling in China

I am applying for a Visa, but wish to travel extensively for a month. Do I have to pay for all travel itinerary ahead of time and is One allowed to change it once in China

You don't have to pay for all travel itinerary for the application. After you enter China under valid visa, you could change your itinerary.
