About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Canada to Thailand through China

I have booked a trip through two different airlines. From Toronto to Guangzhou via Beijing with one airline. And from Guangzhou to Thailand with another airline. Can i use 72 hour transfer window?

PS. Both tickets are one way. Flight from Guangzhou to Thailand withing few hours of flying in.
