I have 7 hrs layover in Beijing (PEK) what you recomend?

Hi, I am flying with Family (total 4) from JFK - Sydney via Beijing (PEK) and I have 7 hr layover. Do you recommend to leave the airport? If yes then what location I should visit. I am interested to see the Great Wall of China. Is it possible? While going back from Syd to JFK, I have another layover for 8 hrs 30 mins. So please recommend on both layovers what I can cover? Thanks.

The distance from the airport to the nearest Mutianyu Great Wall is about 70 kilometers (43 miles) and takes around 1.5-2 hours for one way. It will also take some time to clear customs and get out of the airport. Therefore, it is not feasible to go to the Great Wall within such a short time. A visit to the Great Wall can only be considered if you stop at the airport for at least 10 hours.

If you want to take a brief tour, you may consider to visit Tiananmen Square for the first layover and to the Bird's Nest the Olympic National Stadium for the second layover. Both places can be reached by the airport line and the subway, but be sure to leave enough time to connect to the second flight.
