About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

Do we need a visa? My wife and I plan to leave Australia March 20, 2019 for Shanghai.

Stay overnight Shanghai and catch cruise to Japan March 21. Return Shanghai March 28 and leave for Australia March 31 (stay a little over 72hrs). Do we need entry permit, single or double entry? Any help appreciated.

You don't need visa as you are eligible for free transit in Shanghai twice. No need to worry.
