About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Do I need to do anything prior to arrival at Beijing if staying less than 13 hours on a layover?

I'm flying from the United States to Beijing in the morning and have a layover that day for 13 hours in Beijing. Then going back to the airport to leave and go to Thailand that evening. Do I need to do anything prior to my flight? I'm reading that there is a free transit for visitors staying less than 72 hours.

You don't need a visa. Immigration may grant you a 24 hour temporary stay permit to leave the airport.
