About:Top 10 Useful Shanghai Travel Tips

I have a 23 hr layover in Shanghai prior to my flight to Kunming.

where I have a 12 hr layover. I would like to take a day tour in both cities. Do I need a visa? I’d like to begin my tours at the airports.

Yes, you need to apply for a Chinese visa in advance before the trip in China.
