About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I qualfiy for 144 hours hr transit or should I acquire a single entry visa?

I have a US passport. Will travel to Shanghai and will stay in Shanghai from Jan 2 to Jan 5, 2019 and will embark a cruise which will end in Singapore on Jan 19. Will travel back to US on Jan 20, 2019. There is a lot of confusion stating that I need a single entry and other state that I qualify for the 144 hours free transit. Which is correct? Please help because still in time to acquire single entry if needed. Also if 144 hour transit con be applied. What document shall I fill out on the plane. Thanks.

It depends in what ports the ship will visit. If it stops in another Chinese city you may need a visa

The cruise will embark from Wusongkou International Cruise center. We will visit Nagasaki, Busan, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Ming, Bangkok, Ko Samui, Thailandia (Cruise will provide Visa for Vietman and Thaliandia). The Visa basically for Shanghai. Let me know.

The 144-hour transit will do. You will be asked to fill out an arrival card (distributed on the plane) and provide your cruise confirmation and your hotel reservation. Immigration might ask you to fill out another form which they will provide.
