About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will this work ?

I live in Hong Kong. Can I do HK to Macau (via ferry), then Macau to Beijing (via plane) for 3 days transit visa. And then Beijing to HK.?
I have a British passport.
I know this is a cheeky way to avoid getting a visa for China. But I really want to explore China over long weekend breaks.

This is totally fine as Macau and Hong Kong are different countries for the chinese immigration.
