About:10-year China Visa for US and Canadian Citizens

Visa for Canadian but will be elsewhere in Asia before China

My husband and I, with our 8 year old, are on a 6 month trip that will start in Malaysia in mid-Feb 2019 so we'll be leaving Canada at that time. However, we plan to start the China portion of our trip on May 18. Since it's recommended to apply for our China Visa 1 month in advance but no earlier than 3 months in advance, what is our best option if we want this looked after before we leave for our trip? I'm assuming a 10 year entry permit is our best bet even if we're unlikely to return within that time (although you never know). Thanks!

If so, you can try to apply for a 10-year tourist L type before your departure.

You can apply 6 months in advance if you need to. The advice of 1-3 is based on the fact that peoples visas would expire before they enter china. That is not a worry with the 10 year visa. Though be aware for Canadians the expiration date is 10 years or expiration of the passport whichever is earliest so the longer your passport is valid the longer the Chinese visa will be good for
