About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, going from USA to India and have a 16-20 hour layover in Shangai or Bejing both ways

Does the 72 hour free transit apply for both ways and for both cities in China?

If Shanghai or Beijing is the only city you will transit in each trip, you can apply for the free transit twice in both ways. Nice trip.
