When to apply for an L visa?

I’m a UK citizen travelling to Australia and New Zealand before entering China at the end of February (around 22nd Feb). I plan to get a multiple entry visa (6 months) however, will this still be valid for me to enter China if I apply now? I leave the UK on 26th November.
