About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Melbourne to Shanghai to Chengdu

Hi, I am traveling from Melbourne to Chengdu but have a 2hr layover in Shanghai. We are flying with China Eastern and will be changing planes at Shanghai to another China Eastern plane.we are hoping to stay in Chengdu for 3 days before flying to Vietnam. Does this mean that We cannot get the 72hr TWOV for Chengdu since our flight changes in Shanghai first?

Correct. You do not qualify for the 72 hr TWOV because of the stop in Shanghai.
