Is it necessary to pay gubei admission to hike the wall?

If I want to hike the wall but not spend time in gubei water town, how can I get to the cable car?

No, you needn't pay for that if you don't want to visit the town. You can take a free minibus via through the Gubei water town and then reach the entrance of the Great Wall
