About:China Customs Declaration

Hi, can you please clarify if the duty free allowance is 2,000 RMB *per item* or in aggregate?

The Chinese customs website says: "Personal articles intended to remain in the territory, valued at RMB2,000 or above, carried by non-Chinese residents." It's not clear to me whether this limit is in total or per item. Thank you.
