Layover on way to thailand

Flying to thailand have a 10 hour layover. Wanted to leave the airport and go explore for a few hours. Do I need to apply for anything before I get there or can I do it all when we land in Beijing?

You can apply for the 24h twov after arriving at Beijing. Nice trip.
