About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Vancouver, Canada to Beijing (PEK) to Vietnam

We have a 52 hour layover in Beijing en route to Vietnam. We enter and exit via PEK and plan to visit the Great Wall and Forbidden City. Do we qualify for Visa-Free Transit? And if I am reading the rules correctly, we must apply for a transit permit at PEK.
Thank you!
